How do I know if my battery needs replacing?

A healthy car battery is key to keeping your vehicle running smoothly.

But how can you tell if it’s time for a replacement? One of the first signs is a slow engine start. If your car seems to struggle or takes longer than usual to turn over, it might mean your battery is losing its charge.

Another common indicator is dim or flickering headlights, especially when you’re idling. This happens when the battery isn’t supplying enough power to the electrical system. Keep an eye on your dashboard, too. Many vehicles have a battery-shaped warning light that comes on when there’s an issue.

Corrosion on the battery terminals is another clue. If you notice a white or bluish substance building up, it could mean your battery is aging and nearing the end of its life. Finally, consider the age of your battery. Most last about three to five years, so if yours is older, it’s a good idea to have it tested.

At David’s Automotive Repair, we offer free battery testing to help you stay ahead of potential problems. Don’t wait for your battery to leave you stranded—call in or stop by today and let us make sure your car is ready to go when you are!
